Restaurant FAQ & local tips

Do I need to pre-order peka at Konoba Dubrava?

Yes. Peka cooks slowly under the iron bell, so the kitchen needs notice to set the embers. If you know the day, pre-order a few hours ahead — the result is worth it.

Best time for Bonaca (riverside) and Lapad cafés?

Bonaca is lovely near sunset by the Ombla. Lapad promenade cafés (like Brazil) work great for late breakfast or a mid-afternoon coffee when the beach paths are calm.

Old Town vs. Gruž vs. Lapad — where to eat?

Old Town is atmospheric but busier; pick earlier or later seatings. Gruž is handy for casual spots near the market and marina. Lapad is relaxed, with shaded terraces and seaside walks.

Cards or cash?

Cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for tips or small bakeries. If you plan oysters, kiosks and boats sometimes prefer cash.

Timing to avoid queues

Lunch: 12:00–13:00 or after 14:30. Dinner: before 19:00 or after 21:00. For quick bites (Barba) go slightly off the peak cruise window.

These windows keep your pace easy and kitchens unhurried.

Allergies & dietary notes

Most places are flexible if asked kindly. Tell your server about shellfish or gluten ahead of time; for strict needs, bistros with shorter seasonal menus usually adapt best.
